The Franklin Grove Area Historical Society hosts a variety of public and private events throughout the year that help support preservation efforts and bring history to life. With more than 30 acres of open land and historic structures, the site is ideal for educational programs, reenactments, community gatherings, and special events.

The Cook Cancer 5K Walk/Run

Franklin Grove Area Historical Society is proud to host, The Cook Cancer 5K Walk/Run in memory of Ron and Melody Cook, this is a new event which invites runners and walkers of all ages to experience the various terrains in Chaplin Creek Historic Village, 1715 Whitney Rd, in Franklin Grove, Illinois.
Cancer has affected many households, by participating, you’re not only getting active and having fun, but you’re also helping make a meaningful impact in cancer research through the American Cancer Society, where the profits from the race are going.
Whether you’re running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, this 5K is a chance to come together, give back, and celebrate everything that makes Franklin Grove special. The Franklin Grove Area Historical Society, a 501C3 non-profit organization, hopes to see you October 17th, 2026.

Festivals

Future Projects & Events

Upcoming plans include restoring the Kelly House interior and upstairs, building a line shaft in Blacksmith shop, garage doors on storage shed behind Blacksmith shop, electricity to exterior buildings, building a pavilion, constructing a building material storage area and hosting future events such as a WWII reenactment, music festivals, and a community 5K run.
